Order amid Chaos

Brick council urges Ciba drum removal

Published in the Asbury Park Press

BRICK: Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corp. should be forced to remove the drums of illegally dumped chemicals from the lined landfill at the Ciba-Geigy Superfund site in Dover, according a resolution approved by the Brick Township Council.

Council President Stephen Acropolis said the resolution shows the council's support for a lawsuit filed by Dover Township that, among other things, asks the state Department of Environmental Protection to force Ciba to remove the drums from the landfill, which they believe is leaking.

The current plan allows the drums in the landfill to remain.
